Matthew Clement, CFP®, AIF®
Founder & President
Matthew Clement is President of Emerald Retirement Planning Group, Inc., a financial advisory firm. He works with individuals, families and small business owners throughout the United States, primarily in New York and New Jersey.
Matthew is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in good standing with the CFP Board of Standards, and is an active member of the Financial Planning Association. Matthew is also an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® having earned the AIF® Designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies.
He is proud to serve as Dave Ramsey’s SmartVestor Pro for the Hudson Valley and New York metro area. He has been working with The Dave Ramsey program overall since 2010.
He has more than fourteen years of experience in the areas of financial planning and retirement planning. Matthew believes that the behavioral aspects of long-term planning will always be the primary determinants of the success of his clients, and therefore spends his time helping families with the areas of finance they can actually control. This focus makes him unique among the profession.
He has been a keynote speaker and guest lecturer, and has hosted a 13-week WRCR radio program on the fundamentals of retirement planning. He holds degrees in business and financial planning from Fordham University and was named in 2006 as one of Rockland County’s “Forty Under 40” community leaders.

Personal Background: Matthew is a Christian and a dedicated husband and father. He is also proud to be an American and therefore enthusiastically supports liberty and capitalism. His interests include philosophy, behavioral finance, economic history, and human development. He is also a novice “jogger” (he dares not call it “running”) and a lifelong New York Mets fan. He grew up in Stony Point, NY and lives in Tomkins Cove, NY with his wife Gail and son Andrew (for whom 14,359 additional photos are available upon request).
Barry Krane, CFP®
Vice President, Financial Planning
Barry Krane is Vice President, Financial Planning. He is licensed, experienced, and uniquely qualified to handle the ongoing investment and planning needs of Emerald Retirement Planning clients.
Barry became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in 1992. He graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Psychology from the State University of New Paltz, NY in 1979.
Prior to joining Emerald Retirement Planning, Barry has been an independent financial advisor for over 25 years and was President of Krane Financial Services Corp. He and Matthew first began working together in 2009, and in 2016 he formally joined Emerald Retirement to create a singular financial planning team.
Barry’s been guiding his clients with their retirement planning needs since 1990 and is passionate about assisting people through life’s twists and turns. “My main objective is to help my clients realize their goals and dreams so they may live life with the abundance they desire. It is in this vein that some of my clients warmly think of me as their Life Coach. It is here where I gain deep intrinsic satisfaction from my work. It is this integration of money into our lives where we form our ‘strategies for lifelong planning’.”
Personal Background: Barry has four children and two stepchildren. He’s been divorced, then became a Founding member of the ADFP (Association of Divorce Financial Planners) in 1998. He’s dealt with elder care issues and the death of his parents. He also understands intimately the issues surrounding adoption, special needs, childhood illness, higher education, and retirement planning . . . and uses his extensive experience to assist people in these areas.

Mark Brownstein, CSA®
Director of Medicare & Risk Management
Mark Brownstein is a fully licensed insurance professional and the Director of Medicare and Risk Management for Emerald Retirement Planning Group.
Founded in 2009, Mark has been President of Asset Marketplace, LLC. Mark has specialized in helping clients and financial advisors secure their financial independence, lifestyle and legacy.
Mark focuses on Medicare planning. He is a professional resource for personalized insurance solutions in the areas of Medicare, life insurance, annuities, disability and long term care insurance as well as “linked benefit” products.
He is an independent provider of comprehensive and competitive Medicare, life, long term care and disability insurance solutions. Mark has extensive experience both as a retail agent and regional wholesaler working with individuals, CPA’s, Property and Casualty offices and Trust and Estate attorneys to implement insurance solutions to meet clients’ changing needs. Mark has a strong and diverse background in leadership, marketing and entrepreneurship.
He has received industry recognition as a highly energetic leader in sales and interpersonal communication skills who is both committed to the highest fiduciary standards and to service quality.
Mark is a 3-time President of the Financial Planners Association (FPA) of Greater Hudson Valley, and was Chairman of the same chapter for an additional 3 years. He was also a board member of the Fairfield CT chapter of the Financial Planning Association for 4 years. His leadership has revived a chapter with renewed energy, new initiatives and built a committed board of directors and chapter now nationally recognized.
Mark is also a CSA (Certified Senior Advisor). As an elder advocate he helps improve many facets of seniors and the adult children’s lives including Medicare. He speaks often at libraries and senior centers and has conducted seminars and webinars for corporate Employee Assistance Programs all with the purpose of helping attendees navigate and resolve the gaps in the knowledge and resources needed for all family members. He delivers practical strategies and solutions to help one better deal with the eldercare issues.
Personal Background: Mark was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, worked and travel out West for 12 years and has been a Rockland resident for over 25 years. He is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton School of Management. Mark lives in Nyack, NY with his wife and son.
Office Manager &
Executive Assistant to the President
Lisa Scolaro joined our team in 2014 as Office Manager and Executive Assistant to the President.
She comes to us with over twenty years of experience within the financial services industry. Her primary responsibilities include maintaining the ongoing operations of the office and ensuring consistent delivery of services to our clients. Lisa has quickly become one of the most valuable resources for our company and we appreciate her many skills and ongoing contributions.
Lisa graduated from the State University of New York at Albany. Prior to her position here, she was a Relationship Manager for twelve years at Computershare, Inc. (formerly BNY Mellon Shareowner Services). She received the BNY Mellon Spotlight on Success Award in 2011 for recognition of leadership, innovation, and collaborative efforts.
Lisa believes that being flexible, focused and detail oriented leads to a superior client experience. She is committed to helping Emerald Retirement Planning continue to build its reputation as a leader in the financial planning profession.
Personal Background: Lisa plays a very active role within the community as a Girl Scout troop leader, as an active volunteer at St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish, with her children’s school, and as a soccer coach. She currently lives in North Rockland with her husband Chris and three daughters.
Siana Krane joined our team in 2017 as Assistant to the President and Office Manager.
Siana plays myriad and multifaceted roles within the office, helping the team to operate more effectively. She also manages the day to day experience of our office, making it an organized and comfortable environment for our team and clients.
Siana attended Dutchess Community College and received her Associate’s Degree in Mental Health. She subsequently pursued a long-held interest assisting adults with mental disabilities. More recently, her aptitude for higher level problem solving, process management, and a family history in personal financial planning has led her to us, and we are pleased to have her as one of the newest members of the team.
Personal Background: Siana lives in Orange County with Robert and their cat Penne. She enjoys taking photographs and painting, as well as spending time with friends and family.
